5 strength training mistakes you should avoid

Gym & Fitness — IronForge@5September 4, 2026 1 views 1 min read

Small changes that protect your lifts and prevent the injuries that cost people months.

Most training injuries are not bad luck — they are a technique fault repeated under load until something gives.

Chasing weight before position. If you cannot hold the position at an empty bar, adding plates does not fix it, it hides it. Earn the range first. Skipping the warm-up sets. Two or three ramping sets cost four minutes and tell you what your body has today. Training to failure every session. Failure is a tool, not a plan. Leaving one or two reps in reserve on most sets lets you train again tomorrow. No record of what you lifted. Progressive overload is arithmetic. Without a log you are guessing. Ignoring the accessory work. The lifts you find boring are usually the ones holding the main lift back.

If you are not sure which of these applies to you, ask a coach on the floor to watch a set. That is what we are there for.
